My name is John and after doing my school work experience fortnight in a local gym, I gained a passion for exercise and starting work in the fitness industry in 2003.
My reasons for starting this blog are twofold.
Firstly, I have noticed over many years that people join a gym and are put off by feeling intimidated with all of the equipment available. For new-comers it can be a little overwhelming, and asking gym staff or other gym members can be awkward.
This blog aims to explain how to use, and the benefits of, the common equipment found in a regular gym.
Be it machines like cross trainers, exercise bikes or rowers, weight equipment like free weights and cable machines, or even exercise classes.
Secondly, there are many places online where you can purchase exercise equipment, but they rarely provide good reviews, and explain how to use, or the benefits of what they sell.
Over the years I have bought a rowing machine, exercise bike, weight bench and free weights to use at home. Each time I based my purchase on knowledge I acquired from time spent in the gym, not from information provided by the retailers.
My hope is that by sharing my knowledge on this equipment, other people can make good decisions when making their purchases.
As I have a passion for sports and fitness I will also write on many exercise related topics, like diet, general fitness tips and work out routines. I hope people find this useful, it’s enjoyable to share the knowledge I have gained over years of work experience and study.
